Engraving will teach you the fine details of carving, while the inking segment will give you the hands-on experience needed to mount gemstones in various styles and cuts.

You will know how to set stones in a professional way which is an asset, it introduces you to a rare category of jewellers, jewellers who are usually highly sought after.

In this comprehensive course, you will have the opportunity to enrich your skill set through engraving and stone setting by gaining real hands-on experience.
PRACTICAL DETAILS FOR THE COURSE
What do you learn on the stone setting course?
You learn about the different types of pinning you can choose from when making jewellery. You learn how to mount the stones in such a way as to enhance them. When you have practised the setting technique you will be able to make a perfect setting that will give quality to the jewellery you create.
Engraving basics
The first part will start with some basics of the engraving technique:
- The requirements and preparation of tools for setting stones;
- preparing the surface for engraving;
- the technique of engraving a line – engraving some types of designs.
Stone setting
The second, more extensive part will be the stone setting. The teaching of this technique will be tailored to everyone’s level whether you are a beginner or advanced jeweller. whether you are a beginner or advanced jeweller.
The types of stone settings that will be done will be:
- Bezel setting
- Flush or gypsy setting
- Eternity ring setting
- Similarities and differences between 4 or 6 claw setting and basket setting
- Cluster setting
- Micro pavé setting
- A jour” type setting
- Mixed techniques of settings
Experience
In addition to these will be discussed:
- Tips and tricks for securing pieces to be set with stones
- Framing and layout of areas to be set with stones;
- Correct adjustment of the microscope. Each learner will have individual assistance and plenty of time to practice setting stones to the microscope. stone settings
Technical details of the setting and engraving course
Each class will have a maximum of 6 people. There will be a microscope connected to a monitor. You will take turns working with the microscope to get used to it.
Each table will be equipped with everything necessary and useful for setting techniques, including the clinching ball and micromotor.
- The course will use:
2-3 brass plates; - Round plate for engraving
- several silver rings of different sizes;
- silver boxes
These are included in the cost of the course and will be used to practice engraving and setting techniques. If you would like to work on different sized rings, other ring sizes will be available at your choice, ready prepared for the course, but for a fee.
The stones to be set will range in diameter from 1.75 mm to 7*3.5 mm.

Gabriel Zuică
Jeweller and stone setting master with more than 35 years of experience, Gabriel Zuică is a member of the Romanian Gemological Centre.
Before being a jeweller, Gabriel was an engraver. That’s why our setting course will have the good fortune to start with some basic engraving techniques.

The engraving and stone setting course was a challenge for me! I went from agony to ecstasy throughout the course.
